- Students go “back in time: at Ernie Miller Nature Center as they encounter three different people from Kansas’ past in the outdoor setting of the park. During the 1700’s they will meet a French Canadian fur trapper, who describes his life on the waterways and prairies and how he trades with the Indians. Students will also meet an Osage Indian who tells of the ways of his people and his interactions with the Europeans. During the 1800’s they will meet a pioneer, who relays the hardships of traveling to Kansas. These living history presentations will be followed by “hands-on” participation in pioneer games, viewing a tipi, and information to acquaint students with the prairie ecosystem. Students will need to pack a lunch which is labeled with their name. Students will be outdoors and should dress for the weather. All students should wear closed toed shoes. Sun screen and bug spray are recommended.

- Students will begin by learning about the Blue River Watershed to help them understand how watersheds function. Students will examine the movement of point and non-point source pollutants and how they affect the health of our watershed by using a watershed model. Students will manipulate the model to see how wetland and groundwater systems function within watersheds. Additionally, students will use a stream table model to learn about erosion and deposition. Finally, the students will use an interactive river model to better understand river ecology. The class ends with a short hike exploring sites on the WSC property directly related to erosion and watershed education.

- In this four-hour immersive program, students experience a day in the life of a child attending a one-room school. Students spend three hours in the classroom where they use slates and copybook, and recite their lessons to a costumed schoolteacher. At morning's end, the "noon hour" provides a time for dinner as well as games and stories from the beginning of the 20th century.
